Product information

Every Race Plastics window is custom-made by our experienced team in the UK. Built for motorsport, these polycarbonate windows are lightweight, shatterproof, and far stronger than glass. Unlike acrylics or Perspex, they won’t crack under pressure—giving you peace of mind when you’re pushing hard.

Our standard spec uses 4mm thick polycarbonate, meeting key racing regulations. If you need more strength, we also offer 5mm FIA-compliant windows and hard-coated options for extra durability and scratch resistance.

Windows come in clear, bronze, or grey tints, so you can match the look to your build. You can also add sliders to either or both front doors, depending on how you want to manage airflow.

Window Sliders

Our slider kits are built from the same high-quality polycarbonate as your main windows. Designed for both driver and passenger sides, they’re smooth, secure, and built to last.

You can choose between:

  • Smooth operation with three fixed positions, no rattle
  • Simple and reliable, with two preset stops

Easy to fit and made to avoid rubbing or scratches, these sliders are ideal whether you need more air on track or better control on the road. For full specs, visit the Window Slider Kits page.

How long does shipping take?

Can I install the windows myself?

Yes. Most builds are straightforward and there are plenty of how-to videos online. Unless stated otherwise, our windows are made to fit into standard rubber seals. Need bolt-in versions? Just reach out.

Can I pick up my order?

We usually ship via courier, but yes—collection from our Leeds facility can be arranged. Just drop us a message.

Get in touch as soon as you can. We’ll do our best to make changes, but if production’s already started, there may be a cost to amend the order.

The Vauxhall Astra mk3 rally car

The Vauxhall Astra Mk3, introduced in 1991, had big shoes to fill. Its predecessor had proven itself in both rallying and touring car racing, so expectations were high for this new-generation hatchback. While the Mk3 is often remembered as a dependable family car, it was also a surprisingly strong competitor on the track and rally stages, proving that Vauxhall could still build a performance machine when it mattered.
One of the biggest changes with the Mk3 was its more rounded, aerodynamic design, which brought it in line with the sleeker styling trends of the 1990s. This improved high-speed stability, a crucial factor for its motorsport ambitions. The car was built on a more refined chassis, with improved suspension geometry and a stiffer frame, making it a better platform for racing modifications.
For road-going versions, the Mk3 Astra came with a wide range of engines, but it was the Astra GSi 16v that caught the attention of motorsport teams. Powered by a 2.0-litre 16-valve ‘Red Top’ engine, producing 150 horsepower, it was quick, responsive, and had real potential for competitive racing. This engine was known for high-revving power delivery, strong reliability, and excellent tuning potential, making it an ideal choice for both touring car and rally teams looking for a solid front-wheel-drive contender.
The Astra Mk3 had a strong presence in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), where it faced off against some of the biggest names in the racing world, including the Ford Mondeo, Renault Laguna, and BMW 3 Series. Vauxhall, backed by teams like RML (Ray Mallock Ltd), developed the Astra into a serious competitor in the early to mid-1990s.
Despite being front-wheel drive in a field dominated by rear-wheel-drive powerhouses, the Astra held its own with sharp handling, strong acceleration, and a lightweight, agile chassis. The Mk3’s aerodynamics played a role in keeping it stable at high speeds, while the aggressive touring car suspension setup made it razor-sharp through corners.
While the Mk3 Astra didn’t clinch championship titles in the BTCC, it proved to be a reliable and consistent performer, regularly scoring podium finishes and showing that Vauxhall was serious about motorsport. The knowledge gained from these races directly influenced the performance development of later Astra models, especially the dominant Mk4 Super Touring car.
In rallying, the Mk3 Astra had big shoes to fill after the success of the Mk2 in both Group A and Group N competition. Vauxhall continued to push the Mk3 Astra into national and international rallying, particularly in front-wheel-drive categories, where it proved to be a fast and durable option for privateer teams.
The Astra GSi 16v became a popular choice in tarmac rally events, where its nimble chassis, strong low-end torque, and high-revving nature gave it an advantage on tight, twisty stages. Its lightweight construction and durable drivetrain made it a dependable choice for privateer teams, who appreciated its relative affordability and ease of modification.
While it didn’t have the headline success of some four-wheel-drive monsters like the Subaru Impreza or Ford Escort Cosworth, the Astra excelled in front-wheel-drive classes, often battling it out with cars like the Peugeot 306 GTi-6 and Renault Clio Williams. The Astra’s predictable handling, well-balanced weight distribution, and strong engine made it a great platform for entry-level rallying, especially in British and European events.
The Mk3 Astra may not have dominated the rally or touring car scenes, but it proved that Vauxhall was committed to performance. The lessons learned from its competition years helped shape future performance Astra models, and the Mk3 remains a respected competitor in classic racing and rallying circles today.
For motorsport enthusiasts, the Mk3 Astra represents an era of touring car and rally racing where front-wheel-drive hatchbacks fought hard against bigger, more powerful competition. While it wasn’t always the outright fastest car on the grid, it was a true competitor, tough, reliable, and always willing to put up a fight.
