Product information
Every Race Plastics window is custom-made by our experienced team in the UK. Built for motorsport, these polycarbonate windows are lightweight, shatterproof, and far stronger than glass. Unlike acrylics or Perspex, they won’t crack under pressure—giving you peace of mind when you’re pushing hard.
Our standard spec uses 4mm thick polycarbonate, meeting key racing regulations. If you need more strength, we also offer 5mm FIA-compliant windows and hard-coated options for extra durability and scratch resistance.
Windows come in clear, bronze, or grey tints, so you can match the look to your build. You can also add sliders to either or both front doors, depending on how you want to manage airflow.
Window Sliders
Our slider kits are built from the same high-quality polycarbonate as your main windows. Designed for both driver and passenger sides, they’re smooth, secure, and built to last.
You can choose between:
- Smooth operation with three fixed positions, no rattle
- Simple and reliable, with two preset stops
Easy to fit and made to avoid rubbing or scratches, these sliders are ideal whether you need more air on track or better control on the road. For full specs, visit the Window Slider Kits page.
How long does shipping take?
We’ll confirm your order right away. Standard polycarbonate kits are usually built and shipped within 3 weeks. Custom or hard-coated orders may take longer—we’ll reach out to confirm the lead time. If you’ve got a race coming up, let us know and we’ll do what we can to hit your timeline.
Can I install the windows myself?
Yes. Most builds are straightforward and there are plenty of how-to videos online. Unless stated otherwise, our windows are made to fit into standard rubber seals. Need bolt-in versions? Just reach out.
Can I pick up my order?
We usually ship via courier, but yes—collection from our Leeds facility can be arranged. Just drop us a message.
Need to change your order?
Get in touch as soon as you can. We’ll do our best to make changes, but if production’s already started, there may be a cost to amend the order.

The Volvo 142 rally car
The Volvo 142, introduced in 1966, might not have looked like a typical race or rally car at first glance. With its boxy design, solid build quality, and focus on safety, it seemed more suited for long-distance cruising than high-speed competition. However, behind its unassuming exterior, the Volvo 142 was a tough, well-engineered machine that became a force in touring car racing and rallying, proving that sometimes, the least expected cars can be the most competitive.
One of the biggest surprises of the Volvo 142’s career was its success in touring car racing, particularly in the European and Scandinavian circuits. Despite being heavier than some of its competitors, the 142 had several key advantages that made it a formidable competitor on the track. Unlike lightweight race cars that struggled with structural integrity over long races, the 142’s stiff chassis and strong body meant it could take punishment and keep going. Thanks to a near-perfect weight distribution and well-designed suspension, the 142 was predictable and controlled in corners, allowing drivers to push hard without unexpected surprises. Powered by Volvo’s B20 engine, a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder powerhouse producing up to 180 horsepower in race trim, the 142 had strong torque and impressive durability, making it a great choice for endurance racing.
During the late 1960s and 1970s, the Volvo 142 became a regular sight in European touring car events, often taking on Ford Escorts, BMW 2002s, and Alfa Romeo GTAs. Privateer teams loved it because it was easy to work on, tough as nails, and could be modified into a serious track weapon. In Scandinavian touring car races, the 142 gained a reputation as a “brick that could fly,” using its strong chassis and relentless reliability to compete at a high level. While it may not have had the outright speed of some rivals, its consistency, durability, and ability to handle aggressive racing conditions made it a favourite among endurance racing teams.
While the Volvo 142’s success in touring cars was impressive, it was in rallying where the car truly cemented its motorsport legacy. Competing in Group 2 and later Group 4 rallying, the 142 became a fearsome competitor in the Scandinavian rally scene, where its tough build and strong powerplant made it a perfect choice for loose gravel, snow, and icy conditions. Unlike front-wheel-drive competitors, the 142’s rear-wheel-drive layout made it perfect for aggressive slides and tail-out action, which worked exceptionally well on fast Scandinavian rally roads. While some rally cars struggled with fragile components, the Volvo 142 was practically indestructible, shrugging off impacts that would sideline lighter, more fragile competitors. Privateer teams loved the 142 because it was built to last, easy to repair, and had strong aftermarket support.
One of the most famous drivers to campaign a Volvo 142 in rallying was Sylvia Österberg, a Swedish rally driver who proved that the 142 was capable of competing against more powerful and purpose-built rally cars. The car’s strong presence in Swedish, Finnish, and European rally championships helped build Volvo’s reputation as a serious motorsport brand, not just a company known for safe road cars.
The Volvo 142 remains one of the most iconic racing and rallying Volvos ever built, known for its unbreakable reliability, surprising agility, and ability to punch above its weight class. While it may have been competing in a time when more glamorous brands like Porsche, Ford, and BMW were stealing headlines, the Volvo 142 quietly built a cult following among hardcore enthusiasts who valued toughness over trends.
Even today, the 142 is a regular sight in historic rally and classic touring car racing events, where its timeless boxy design and howling B20 engine continue to thrill both drivers and spectators. Whether on gravel rally stages or the tight corners of a race track, the Volvo 142 remains a true underdog story, proof that strength, endurance, and a little Scandinavian stubbornness can go a long way in motorsport.
