Race Plastics polycarbonate windows are handcrafted to order by our expert UK team. Designed for motorsport and high-performance use, they’re lightweight, tough, and completely shatterproof—unlike glass or standard acrylics, which can crack under stress.

Our standard windows use 4mm polycarbonate to meet Motorsport UK regulations. We also offer 5mm options that are FIA compliant, plus hard-coated variants for added durability and resistance to scratching.

All windows are available in clear, bronze, or grey tint to suit your vehicle’s design. You can also add window sliders to either or both front doors, depending on your setup.

Window Sliders

Each slider kit is made from the same polycarbonate as your chosen windows. Designed for both driver and passenger sides, these sliders are reliable, practical, and easy to install.

Choose between:

  • Three-position locking with a smooth, rattle-free action
  • Simple two-position setup for fast and secure use

Sliders are engineered to avoid scratching and sit flush with your window kit. Ideal for improving airflow on track days or road builds. More info is available on our Window Slider Kits page.

Shipping times

Once your order’s confirmed, we’ll get started. Most standard orders are manufactured and dispatched within 3 weeks. Custom or hard-coated versions may take a little longer—we’ll contact you with a lead time. If you need your order by a specific date, let us know and we’ll aim to meet it.

Can I fit the windows myself?

Yes, installation is usually straightforward. There are helpful videos online, and our windows are designed to fit into standard rubber seals unless otherwise noted. If you need bolt-in variants, just contact us.

Can I collect my order?

Collection from our UK facility is available by arrangement. Most international orders are shipped, but we’re happy to sort collection if needed—just get in touch.

The Volkswagen Golf MK3 rally car

By the time the Volkswagen Golf Mk3 arrived in 1991, the Golf name was already legendary, especially in the world of motorsport. The Mk1 and Mk2 GTI models had dominated hot hatch culture, but the Mk3 had to prove itself in a new era of performance cars. While it was heavier and more refined than its predecessors, it still found its place in touring car racing, rallying, and grassroots motorsport, where it proved to be a durable, front-wheel-drive competitor that could take on much faster rivals.
The Golf Mk3 was actively campaigned in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), German Super Touring, and other European touring car series throughout the 1990s. Volkswagen developed race-prepped versions under the Super Touring regulations, featuring stripped-out interiors, widened bodywork, and highly tuned naturally aspirated engines producing over 250 horsepower.
One of the key teams that ran the Golf Mk3 in touring car racing was ABT Sportsline, which fielded the Golf in the ADAC Super Tourenwagen Cup (STW). The Mk3 had to compete against BMW 3 Series, Audi A4s, and Ford Mondeos, all of which had stronger factory-backed support. While it never outright dominated, the Golf Mk3 proved to be a reliable, well-balanced machine, often securing midfield finishes and occasional podiums.
Its front-wheel-drive layout and nimble handling made it particularly effective on tighter, more technical circuits, where outright power wasn’t as much of a deciding factor. Despite being outgunned by some of the more powerful rear-wheel-drive competition, the Golf Mk3 held its own through consistency, reliability, and clever race strategy.
While Volkswagen’s motorsport focus in the early 1990s wasn’t as aggressive as other manufacturers, privateer teams quickly found the Golf Mk3 to be a solid platform for rallying. Competing in Group N, Group A, and F2 rally categories, the Mk3 GTI was a tough, dependable choice for rally drivers looking for a well-balanced, front-wheel-drive car.
The Golf GTI 16V, powered by a 2.0-litre, 16-valve engine producing 150 horsepower, became the preferred model for rallying. With lightweight modifications, suspension upgrades, and limited-slip differentials, the Mk3 Golf performed exceptionally well on tarmac rally stages, where its predictable handling and punchy engine allowed it to compete with the Peugeot 306 GTi-6, Renault Clio Williams, and Honda Civic VTi.
The Volkswagen Motorsport division also built a factory-supported rally version, using the 2.0-litre 16V and later a 2.0-litre ABF engine, developing over 200 horsepower in rally spec. It saw success in German and European rally championships, though it never reached the heights of Volkswagen’s later rally cars like the Polo R WRC.
One of the Golf Mk3’s standout traits in rallying was its durability. Unlike some of its more fragile competitors, the Golf could take massive punishment on gravel and rough terrain, often finishing rallies where other cars retired due to mechanical issues. This made it a favourite for amateur and privateer teams looking for a reliable, low-maintenance rally car.
Volkswagen also introduced the Volkswagen Golf GTI Cup, a one-make racing series designed to showcase young driving talent and promote the GTI brand. Running Mk3 Golfs with identical specifications, the GTI Cup gave up-and-coming drivers a chance to race in closely matched, highly competitive fields, where driver skill mattered more than outright power.
This series helped establish the Golf Mk3’s sporting credibility, proving that even in a time when it was considered heavier and less aggressive than previous GTIs, it could still deliver thrilling racing action.
Though it never reached the same level of dominance as the Mk1 and Mk2 GTIs, the Mk3 still left its mark in motorsport. It was a staple in touring car and rallying events throughout the 1990s, holding its own against tougher, more powerful competition while maintaining Volkswagen’s reputation for reliability and consistency.
Today, the Golf Mk3 remains a popular choice for historic racing, rally sprints, and track days, with enthusiasts continuing to modify and race them. It may not have been the most celebrated GTI, but it proved that even in a changing era, the Golf could still be a formidable machine on the track and the stages.
