What is Windscreen Bonding Adhesive?
Windscreen bonding adhesive is a specialized sealant designed to securely attach glass or polycarbonate windscreens and windows to a vehicle’s body. It provides a strong, long-lasting bond that ensures the window remains in place, even under the stresses of driving, weather conditions, and vibrations.
How Does Windscreen Bonding Adhesive Work?
Masterbond is formulated to create a fast and secure bond between the window and vehicle body without the need for a primer. It works by bonding directly to the cleaned surface of the window and the vehicle's frame. Its high-modulus, non-conductive properties make it ideal for modern vehicles, ensuring that the adhesive doesn’t interfere with any electrical currents in the rear glass. Additionally, the adhesive sets quickly, allowing for a drive-away time of just one hour, making it a time-efficient solution.
Do I Need to Use Windscreen Bonding Adhesive?
If you're replacing or installing a window in your vehicle, using a proper adhesive like Masterbond is essential. It provides a safe, secure installation and prevents water leaks, air drafts, and improper sealing that can lead to issues down the road. Masterbond is perfect for bonding both glass and polycarbonate windows, making it versatile for different vehicle types and applications.
How Do You Apply Windscreen Bonding Adhesive?
- Remove Old Windscreen: Use a tool like a hot knife or cheese wire to carefully remove the old window, following the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions.
- Prepare the New Window: Clean the edges of the new window with an alcohol wipe, and also clean the aperture of the vehicle where the new window will be placed.
- Trim the Old Sealant: Leave 1-2mm of the old PU sealant on the vehicle’s frame for a better bond.
- Apply the Adhesive: Apply Masterbond in a triangular bead to either the window or the vehicle’s aperture. If needed, preheat the adhesive cartridge in warm water for smoother application.
- Install the Window: Use suction cups if necessary to fit the window into place, smoothing out any excess adhesive to avoid leaks.
- Safe Drive-Away Time: After one hour, the bond will be strong enough for the vehicle to be driven. Take care not to slam doors or create pressure that could disturb the new bond.
Why Choose Masterbond?
- No Primer Required: Saves time and effort with its innovative primerless formula.
- Quick Drying: Drive away in just one hour after application.
- Versatile: Ideal for both polycarbonate and glass window bonding.
- Non-Conductive: Perfect for use with rear windows that have electrical currents.
