Product information

Our polycarbonate windows are hand crafted to order by our experienced UK based team. They are designed to be safe, strong and lightweight, making them ideal for motorsport. They are much stronger than glass and shatterproof, unlike Perspex and other acrylics, so you are well protected whilst driving.

Our standard windows are manufactured from 4mm thick polycarbonate to comply with Motorsport UK regulations, whilst we also offer 5mm FIA compliant and hard-coated options for those looking tougher windows.

All of our windows are available in a choice of clear, bronze or grey polycarbonate so can choose the windows that best suit your car. You also have the option to add window sliders to either one or both of the front door windows depending on your preference.

Window sliders

Upgrade your vehicle with the Race Plastics Window Slider Kit, designed for both driver and navigator sides. Crafted from the same high-quality polycarbonate as your chosen window, these sliders ensure seamless integration and durability. Choose between two locking systems: the Click-Click Bearing Lock for smooth, rattle-free operation with three adjustable positions, or the Split-Pin Lock for a simple, secure, and reliable solution with two preset positions.

Engineered for flawless fitment and effortless installation, our sliders prevent rubbing and scratching, keeping your windows looking sharp. Whether you need maximum airflow on the track or controlled ventilation on the road, this upgrade delivers race-ready performance. For more details, check out our Window Slider Kits.

How long does an order take to ship?

We will confirm receipt of your order straight away and will be in touch if we have any questions regarding your order. Standard polycarbonate orders are usually manufactured and despatched within 3 weeks of the order being placed. Specialist orders - for example if you choose hard-coating plastic - will take longer, but we will contact you and discuss this with you. If you need your order by a certain date then please let us know.

Can I fit the window myself?

Yes, it is straight forward to remove an existing window and install a RacePlastics polycarbonate window. There are plenty of guides on YouTube to help you do this. Unless otherwise stated, all windows are designed to be fitted into rubber seals, please contact us if you require bolt in versions.

Can I collect the order myself?

Yes, we usually courier orders out to our customers, but if you contact us, we can arrange for collection from our Leeds factory.

How can I change my order?

If you need to discuss or change your order in any way, please get in touch with the team at the earliest chance. We will always try to accommodate any changes but costs may be incurred if the manufacturing process has already started.

The Toyota Corolla TE71 Hatchback rally car

The Toyota Corolla TE71 Hatchback, produced between 1979 and 1983, is one of the forgotten but crucial stepping stones in the evolution of Toyota’s performance cars. Sitting between the classic TE27 and the legendary AE86, the TE71 was one of the last rear-wheel-drive Corolla hatchbacks, making it a favourite among enthusiasts, tuners, and grassroots racers. While it may not have the same cult following as the AE86, the TE71 laid the groundwork for what would later become Toyota’s most famous drift and touge machine.
The TE71 belonged to the fourth-generation Corolla lineup (E70 series) and was offered in multiple body styles, including coupes, sedans, and hatchbacks. The hatchback model combined practicality with a lightweight, well-balanced chassis, making it a fun and usable performance car even in stock form.
Under the bonnet, the TE71 came with Toyota’s T-series engines, including the 1.6-litre 2T-G twin-cam unit, which produced around 115 horsepower. While that might not sound like much, the lightweight construction and rear-wheel-drive layout made the TE71 an engaging and lively car to drive. The close-ratio five-speed manual gearbox allowed drivers to extract every bit of power from the high-revving engine, making it a proper driver’s car long before that term became a marketing slogan.
Where the TE71 truly shined was in its handling and balance. It had a solid rear axle with a well-tuned suspension setup, giving it predictable oversteer characteristics that made it a blast to drive on tight mountain roads or track days. This combination of lightweight agility and a naturally aspirated, high-revving engine made it a favourite among early drifters and rally enthusiasts.
Visually, the TE71 had classic late ‘70s and early ‘80s styling, with boxy lines, flared wheel arches, and a sloping hatchback rear that gave it a purposeful stance. Some models featured black plastic bumpers and racing stripes, hinting at its sporty nature. While it didn’t scream performance like later Toyota sports cars, the right wheels, suspension mods, and a deep exhaust note could easily transform the TE71 into a proper head-turner.
On the rally stage, the TE71 proved its worth, competing in Group A and Group N rallying, where its lightweight chassis, simple mechanics, and rear-wheel-drive layout made it a solid choice for privateer teams. It may not have been as dominant as some of Toyota’s later rally cars, but it showcased the brand’s growing expertise in building performance-oriented, driver-focused machines.
Despite being overshadowed by its successor, the AE86, the TE71 is still a highly respected classic among JDM enthusiasts, especially those who appreciate the golden era of lightweight, rear-wheel-drive Toyotas. Today, finding a clean, unmodified TE71 is incredibly rare, but those who own them know they have one of Toyota’s best-kept secrets, a car that offers raw driving pleasure, a connection to the road, and a direct link to Toyota’s motorsport heritage.
For those lucky enough to get behind the wheel of a TE71, it’s a reminder of a time when simple, rear-wheel-drive hatchbacks could deliver some of the purest driving thrills imaginable. It may not have the instant name recognition of the AE86, but for those in the know, the TE71 is a hidden gem in Toyota’s performance history.
