Product information
Our polycarbonate windows are hand crafted to order by our experienced UK based team. They are designed to be safe, strong and lightweight, making them ideal for motorsport. They are much stronger than glass and shatterproof, unlike Perspex and other acrylics, so you are well protected whilst driving.
Our standard windows are manufactured from 4mm thick polycarbonate to comply with Motorsport UK regulations, whilst we also offer 5mm FIA compliant and hard-coated options for those looking tougher windows.
All of our windows are available in a choice of clear, bronze or grey polycarbonate so can choose the windows that best suit your car. You also have the option to add window sliders to either one or both of the front door windows depending on your preference.
Window sliders
Upgrade your vehicle with the Race Plastics Window Slider Kit, designed for both driver and navigator sides. Crafted from the same high-quality polycarbonate as your chosen window, these sliders ensure seamless integration and durability. Choose between two locking systems: the Click-Click Bearing Lock for smooth, rattle-free operation with three adjustable positions, or the Split-Pin Lock for a simple, secure, and reliable solution with two preset positions.
Engineered for flawless fitment and effortless installation, our sliders prevent rubbing and scratching, keeping your windows looking sharp. Whether you need maximum airflow on the track or controlled ventilation on the road, this upgrade delivers race-ready performance. For more details, check out our Window Slider Kits.
How long does an order take to ship?

If you need your order by a certain date then please let us know.
Can I fit the window myself?
Yes, it is straight forward to remove an existing window and install a RacePlastics polycarbonate window. There are plenty of guides on YouTube to help you do this. Unless otherwise stated, all windows are designed to be fitted into rubber seals, please contact us if you require bolt in versions.
Can I collect the order myself?
Yes, we usually courier orders out to our customers, but if you contact us, we can arrange for collection from our Leeds factory.

The Vauxhall Astra mk1 rally car
The Vauxhall Astra Mk1, launched in 1980, marked a huge shift for Vauxhall. Before the Astra, Vauxhall had stuck with rear-wheel-drive saloons like the Viva and Chevette, but the Mk1 Astra was their first front-wheel-drive hatchback, setting the foundation for decades of success. Designed as a rival to the Ford Escort, Volkswagen Golf, and Austin Maestro, the Astra was practical, stylish, and surprisingly fun to drive, making it an instant hit in the UK and beyond.
The Mk1 Astra wasn’t actually a Vauxhall design, it was a rebadged version of the Opel Kadett D, which had been developed by General Motors in Germany. This was part of GM’s new strategy of sharing designs across Europe, meaning the Astra benefited from advanced engineering and a modern, aerodynamic shape compared to its predecessors.
Available in three-door and five-door hatchback, saloon, and estate versions, the Astra appealed to a wide range of buyers, from families looking for a reliable daily driver to young enthusiasts who wanted something lightweight and agile. The boxy but clean styling gave it a modern look for the time, with sharp lines and an aerodynamic wedge shape that improved fuel efficiency.
Under the bonnet, the Astra Mk1 offered a range of four-cylinder petrol engines, from a 1.2-litre unit producing 55 horsepower to the more powerful 1.6-litre option with 90 horsepower. These engines were fuel-efficient, durable, and easy to maintain, making them perfect for budget-conscious buyers. The lightweight chassis and front-wheel-drive layout gave the Astra lively handling and good road manners, making it more fun to drive than many expected from a family hatchback.
But the real highlight of the Mk1 Astra was the GTE model, introduced in 1983. This was Vauxhall’s answer to the hot hatch revolution, with the GTE featuring a 1.8-litre fuel-injected engine producing 115 horsepower, giving it a 0-60 mph time of around 8.5 seconds. With its sportier suspension, sharper steering, and aggressive styling, the Astra GTE proved that Vauxhall could compete with the likes of the Volkswagen Golf GTI and Ford Escort XR3i in the hot hatch wars.
Inside, the Mk1 Astra was simple but practical, with a driver-focused dashboard, supportive seats, and just enough equipment to feel modern without being overcomplicated. It was designed to be affordable and easy to live with, offering good visibility, a spacious cabin, and a decent-sized boot, making it a genuine all-rounder.
By the time production ended in 1984, the Astra Mk1 had cemented its place as a major player in the UK car market, paving the way for future generations of the Astra, which would go on to become one of Vauxhall’s best-selling models ever.
Today, the Mk1 Astra is a rare sight on British roads, with most having succumbed to rust or decades of hard use. However, enthusiasts and collectors still appreciate it for its clean design, engaging driving experience, and historical importance. The GTE models, in particular, are becoming highly sought after, as they represent one of the earliest and most underrated hot hatches of the 1980s.
For those who remember it, the Astra Mk1 was more than just a car, it was the start of something big. It proved that Vauxhall could build a modern, front-wheel-drive hatchback that was practical, efficient, and genuinely enjoyable to drive, setting the stage for decades of Astra success.
