Product information

Our polycarbonate windows are hand crafted to order by our experienced UK based team. They are designed to be safe, strong and lightweight, making them ideal for motorsport. They are much stronger than glass and shatterproof, unlike Perspex and other acrylics, so you are well protected whilst driving.

Our standard windows are manufactured from 4mm thick polycarbonate to comply with Motorsport UK regulations, whilst we also offer 5mm FIA compliant and hard-coated options for those looking tougher windows.

All of our windows are available in a choice of clear, bronze or grey polycarbonate so can choose the windows that best suit your car. You also have the option to add window sliders to either one or both of the front door windows depending on your preference.

Window sliders

Upgrade your vehicle with the Race Plastics Window Slider Kit, designed for both driver and navigator sides. Crafted from the same high-quality polycarbonate as your chosen window, these sliders ensure seamless integration and durability. Choose between two locking systems: the Click-Click Bearing Lock for smooth, rattle-free operation with three adjustable positions, or the Split-Pin Lock for a simple, secure, and reliable solution with two preset positions.

Engineered for flawless fitment and effortless installation, our sliders prevent rubbing and scratching, keeping your windows looking sharp. Whether you need maximum airflow on the track or controlled ventilation on the road, this upgrade delivers race-ready performance. For more details, check out our Window Slider Kits.

How long does an order take to ship?

We will confirm receipt of your order straight away and will be in touch if we have any questions regarding your order. Standard polycarbonate orders are usually manufactured and despatched within 3 weeks of the order being placed. Specialist orders - for example if you choose hard-coating plastic - will take longer, but we will contact you and discuss this with you. If you need your order by a certain date then please let us know.

Can I fit the window myself?

Yes, it is straight forward to remove an existing window and install a RacePlastics polycarbonate window. There are plenty of guides on YouTube to help you do this. Unless otherwise stated, all windows are designed to be fitted into rubber seals, please contact us if you require bolt in versions.

Can I collect the order myself?

Yes, we usually courier orders out to our customers, but if you contact us, we can arrange for collection from our Leeds factory.

How can I change my order?

If you need to discuss or change your order in any way, please get in touch with the team at the earliest chance. We will always try to accommodate any changes but costs may be incurred if the manufacturing process has already started.

The Yugo rally car

The Yugo, built by the Yugoslavian manufacturer Zastava, is often remembered as one of the most budget-friendly cars of the 1980s and 1990s. Marketed as an affordable, no-frills city car, it became infamous in the West for its basic build quality and lack of refinement. However, beyond the jokes and criticisms, the Yugo had an unexpected presence in motorsport, particularly in rallying and touring car racing, where its lightweight design and simple mechanical layout made it surprisingly competitive in certain categories.
When it first appeared in 1980, the Yugo was based heavily on Fiat’s 127 and 128 models, using proven Fiat-derived engines and running gear. This gave it a level of reliability and handling that made it a strong platform for motorsport, especially in front-wheel-drive racing classes. While it lacked outright power, it made up for it with agility, simplicity, and durability, three key ingredients for success in entry-level rallying.
The Yugo gained traction in rallying across Eastern Europe, where many privateer teams and grassroots racers used it as a low-cost option for competition. In Group N rally events, where modifications were limited, the Yugo’s lightweight chassis and rev-happy engines allowed it to punch above its weight, particularly on tight, technical rally stages. The 1.1-litre and 1.3-litre engines, tuned for competition, could produce up to 130 horsepower in race spec, giving the tiny hatchback enough speed to challenge larger, more powerful cars in its class.
Despite its small size, the Yugo proved to be durable over rough terrain, which was crucial in rallying. Its short wheelbase and nimble handling made it effective on twisty, narrow roads, and while it struggled on long straights, it could gain time in the corners. Yugo rally cars were a common sight in Yugoslavian and Eastern European rally championships, where they often competed against Fiat Pandas, Peugeot 205s, and Lada Samaras. Some teams even developed highly modified, turbocharged versions to compete in more aggressive rally formats, showcasing just how much potential the humble Yugo had when properly tuned.
In circuit racing, the Yugo saw action in touring car competitions, particularly in one-make racing series, where drivers competed in identical Yugo models to highlight driving skill over outright performance. While it never reached the heights of dominant touring cars like the BMW M3 or Ford Sierra Cosworth, it served as an entry-level racer for many young drivers starting their careers in motorsport.
One of the most famous motorsport versions of the Yugo was the Yugo Cup, a one-make racing series that became popular in Eastern Europe. These races showcased the car’s handling and reliability under extreme track conditions, proving that despite its reputation, the Yugo could still be an entertaining and capable machine when pushed to its limits.
Even today, the Yugo has a small but passionate following in historic rallying and grassroots motorsport, where it remains a fun, low-cost way to experience racing. While it may never be remembered as a motorsport giant, the Yugo earned its place as an underdog that refused to be counted out, proving that even the most unlikely cars can have a fighting spirit on the track and rally stages.
