Product information

Our polycarbonate windows are hand crafted to order by our experienced UK based team. They are designed to be safe, strong and lightweight, making them ideal for motorsport. They are much stronger than glass and shatterproof, unlike Perspex and other acrylics, so you are well protected whilst driving.

Our standard windows are manufactured from 4mm thick polycarbonate to comply with Motorsport UK regulations, whilst we also offer 5mm FIA compliant and hard-coated options for those looking tougher windows.

All of our windows are available in a choice of clear, bronze or grey polycarbonate so can choose the windows that best suit your car. You also have the option to add window sliders to either one or both of the front door windows depending on your preference.

Window sliders

Upgrade your vehicle with the Race Plastics Window Slider Kit, designed for both driver and navigator sides. Crafted from the same high-quality polycarbonate as your chosen window, these sliders ensure seamless integration and durability. Choose between two locking systems: the Click-Click Bearing Lock for smooth, rattle-free operation with three adjustable positions, or the Split-Pin Lock for a simple, secure, and reliable solution with two preset positions.

Engineered for flawless fitment and effortless installation, our sliders prevent rubbing and scratching, keeping your windows looking sharp. Whether you need maximum airflow on the track or controlled ventilation on the road, this upgrade delivers race-ready performance. For more details, check out our Window Slider Kits.

How long does an order take to ship?

We will confirm receipt of your order straight away and will be in touch if we have any questions regarding your order. Standard polycarbonate orders are usually manufactured and despatched within 3 weeks of the order being placed. Specialist orders - for example if you choose hard-coating plastic - will take longer, but we will contact you and discuss this with you. If you need your order by a certain date then please let us know.

Can I fit the window myself?

Yes, it is straight forward to remove an existing window and install a RacePlastics polycarbonate window. There are plenty of guides on YouTube to help you do this. Unless otherwise stated, all windows are designed to be fitted into rubber seals, please contact us if you require bolt in versions.

Can I collect the order myself?

Yes, we usually courier orders out to our customers, but if you contact us, we can arrange for collection from our Leeds factory.

How can I change my order?

If you need to discuss or change your order in any way, please get in touch with the team at the earliest chance. We will always try to accommodate any changes but costs may be incurred if the manufacturing process has already started.

The Lotus Elise Series 1 rally car

Some cars are built for speed. Others are built for luxury. And then there’s the Lotus Elise Series 1, a car built for one thing and one thing only: driving perfection. No excess weight, no unnecessary gadgets, no distractions, just a pure, stripped-back experience that makes you feel connected to the road in a way that modern cars can only dream of.
Launched in 1996, the first-generation Elise was a revelation. It wasn’t just another small sports car; it was a return to Lotus’ core philosophy of “Simplify, then add lightness”, something Colin Chapman himself would have been proud of. Weighing in at just 725kg, the Elise wasn’t chasing massive horsepower figures, it didn’t need to. Its mid-mounted 1.8-litre Rover K-Series engine produced 118 horsepower, which in a normal car would feel average. But in the Elise? It felt like a rocket.
That’s because the Elise was more about balance and feel than outright speed. The lightweight bonded aluminium chassis was a masterpiece of engineering, making the car unbelievably rigid while keeping it feather-light. Every component was designed with weight-saving in mind, from the minimalist interior to the tiny, ultra-thin body panels. It wasn’t just about reducing weight for the sake of it, it was about making the car respond instantly to every input, every twitch of the wheel, every squeeze of the throttle.
The steering was unassisted, giving pure, direct feedback that modern cars simply can’t replicate. You felt everything, every bump, every change in grip, every slight weight shift as you flicked it into a corner. The suspension was firm but perfectly balanced, allowing you to attack corners at speeds that should have been impossible. And thanks to its rear-wheel-drive setup and near-perfect weight distribution, the Elise handled like an extension of your own body.
Straight-line speed wasn’t its party trick, but on a tight, twisty road, the Elise could humiliate cars with twice the power and three times the price. It was the kind of car that made every drive feel like a track day, whether you were blasting through the countryside or just heading to the shops.
Lotus knew they had built something special, and it wasn’t long before the Elise started turning heads in motorsport. Track day enthusiasts loved it for its razor-sharp handling, while professional racers saw its potential in one-make championships and endurance racing. It wasn’t about straight-line speed, it was about cornering precision and driver engagement.
Of course, the Elise wasn’t for everyone. It was basic to the extreme, no power steering, no ABS, minimal soundproofing, and an interior that made even the most stripped-out hot hatch look luxurious. Getting in and out of it required a level of flexibility normally reserved for Olympic gymnasts, and if you were over six feet tall, you’d probably have to fold yourself in half to fit. But none of that mattered once you were behind the wheel.
Over time, Lotus would refine and develop the Elise, adding more powerful engines, improved suspension, and slightly more creature comforts. But the Series 1 remains the purest, rawest version of them all, a car that wasn’t built to be practical or comfortable but to deliver the ultimate driving experience.
Today, the Elise Series 1 is an icon, a car that reminds us why we love driving in the first place. It’s not about 0-60 times or Nürburgring lap records. It’s about feeling every inch of the road, being fully engaged, and having the kind of fun that modern cars, with all their computers and driver aids, just can’t offer.
If you ever get the chance to drive one, take it. Because cars like this don’t get made anymore. The Elise S1 isn’t just a sports car, it’s an event, an experience, and a lesson in why less is sometimes so much more.
